7 Ways How a Literature Festival Helps Students Grow

On May 10th, 2024, The Presidency International School hosted a vibrant Literary Festival focused on the works of Rabindranath Tagore. 

The event, known as the Narinder Kaur Literary Festival, featured esteemed guests and judges such as Mr. Manjeet Singh, Mr. and Mrs. Manmohan Singh, Mrs. Geeta Kohli and Mrs. Paramjeet Kaur. It brought together students from various houses and grades, showcasing their creativity and literary skills. 

Here’s how the Literature Festival helped students grow: 

Improved Public Speaking Skills

The Solo Elocution competition allowed students to captivate the audience with their expressive renditions of poems and prose.

By performing in front of an audience, students improved their public speaking skills. 

Special mention was given to Gururoop Kaur of Fateh House for her outstanding performance.

Encouraged Artistic Expression

In the Collage Creations competition, students visually interpreted the theme of CATHARSIS through captivating collages. 

This competition encouraged students to express their understanding of complex emotions and ideas artistically.

Fateh House won the first place for their impressive collage. 

Boosted Academic Knowledge

The orthography quiz tested students’ knowledge of language and spelling, highlighting their academic prowess.

Fateh House emerged victorious in this challenge and thus showcased their strong command of the language. 

Additionally, the debate competition sparked lively discussions which further improved students’ critical thinking and argumentation skills. 

Fostered Creativity in Storytelling

The Storytelling and Skits segment brought classic Tagore tales to life with a unique twist from each participant.

Students from different houses presented original horror skits which added a thrilling dimension to the event.

Jujhar House won the first place in the skits category, with Fateh House coming in second. Shrinika Bahuguna from Zorawar House secured the first place in story narration, followed by Aditi Raghuwanshi from Fateh House.

Showcased Visual Talents

The Creative Displays segment featured a “display tree” where students showcased their artistic talents visually and highlighted the elements of orthography.

Additionally, the “book cover” competition challenged students to design eye-catching covers for new editions of Tagore’s classics. 

Parleen Kaur won the first place and Jaisleen Kaur secured second place for their beautiful book covers. Fateh House also won the first place for their impressive display tree.

The event concluded with an inspiring speech by the Principal, followed by a felicitation ceremony.

This leadership moment motivated students to aspire to greater heights and recognize the importance of guidance and inspiration in their educational journey. 

Promoted Team Spirit and House Pride

Competitions like these foster a sense of team spirit and house pride among students. 

Fateh House bagged the esteemed Narinder Kaur English Literary Festival trophy, “The Lady” and thus reinforced the importance of teamwork and collective effort.

The Presidency International School’s Literary Festival successfully paid homage to the literary giant, Rabindranath Tagore and was a resounding success.
